Organization of the Class, Mandel Samuels

One challenge the students may have when moving to an online class is the organization of the class.  I try to address this by setting up all of my classes with the same basic structure.

As an example, all of the items on the navigation panel are the same and in the same order.

Depending on the class, there could be a topic or two that are different.

The assignment folders are all set up the same such as numbering the assignment folders, assignment #1, #2, etc.  Once a student clicks on the assignment folder, there is an introduction section that has an overview, objectives, and assignment information.  Below this section is the assignment.

This is just one way.  Choose a structure that works for you and be consistent.  You do not have to set this up alone.  The Instructional Designers with the Global Campus are willing and very helpful in organizing your online class.

Once the students get accustomed to your structure, they will know what to expect, how to navigate the class for information, and become more comfortable in participating in an online class.
